Trim and rot · Lakewood, Ohio
Rotted trim, fascia, and exterior wood repair
Soft wood at a roof edge, a window sill, or a deck board is a small problem for about one season. I cut out the rot, replace it with material shaped to match, and seal and paint it so it lasts.

What I repair
- Fascia and soffit. Rotted fascia boards, soffit panels, and the rafter tails behind them. Usually caused by gutters that overflow or pull away.
- Trim, sills, and corners. Window and door casings, sills, corner boards, water tables.
- Decks. Board replacement, deck railings and stairs, limited reframing on existing decks.
How I decide what to do
I probe every soft spot with an awl before I price anything.
- Consolidate and fill when the rot is shallow and the board is otherwise sound, especially on original moulded trim that's hard to match.
- Dutchman patch when one section of a long board has failed. That's the repair in the Reclaim mark.
- Replace when rot runs through the board or into the framing.
I'll also tell you what caused it. If it's a gutter, roof, or grading problem, the repair won't last until that's fixed, and I'll say so.
